Louise Pelletier, Past President

AADE - Cindy Young is secretary to the president's Counsel and on
multiple AADE committees. Has gotten some good ideas for the MeADE
including how to recruit and maintain membership.

July 16, 2008 Meeting MInutes reviewed and approved.

Committee Reports: Looking for support and encourages MeADE members to
sign up to participate on one, or more, of the committees. Committee
sign up sheets are available at MeADE table in the exhibitors hall;
Pelletier will update new and ongoing committee chairs and committee
members by 12/31/08. Would also like to focus on fundraising for MeADE;
One thought is to have a silent auction.

Regional Representatives: Mary Fleming is one. There are 5 regions in Maine
which is very large and hard for people to travel. In future would like
to think about getting members from the different regions together to
discuss resources and networking.

Legislative Committee very important committee but really hasn't
gotten off the ground in the three years that MeADE has existed
would look for some members to join and support this important
committee.

Communications and Public Relations Committee  Web Domain was about to
expire --- indicating that it has been 3 years since the web site was up
and going. B. Smith has worked to update, improve and manage the web
site. In regards to the brochure --- thanks to the input from members
it has been approved and completed. They are designed to speak to
people with diabetes about what diabetes educators do. There is a place
for members to put their card or stamp on it so that as patients pick
these up (pharmacies, doctor's offices) the patient will have a way to
contact the diabetes educator. Each MeADE member present will be given
10 brochures to get started with; the cost of additional brochures will
be $20 per 100 copies, plus shipping and handling.

Strategic Planning Committee:  L. Gordon/ J. Courtois  The committee
has done a great job getting this conference organized. Currently have
12 members but would really appreciate having more --- to add ideas
and creativity. Being a member of this committee is not a huge demand
the committee talks on the phone about once a month with each member
handling small pieces of the conference planning. They encourage more
people to join as they really get some great ideas as a group. Also
looking for feedback from the members on what they liked/ did not like
or would like to see in future conferences.

Next years conference is 10/4/09 =96 10/06/09 at Point Lookout Conference
Center in NorthPort, Maine. This is located on the water between
Lincolnville and Belfast. It will be peak season, as far as colors go.
There are cabins available to stay in with shuttle service to and from
the conference center (please see green sheet in folder given at
registration for further information).

Finance Committee: Barbara Smith - Biggest part of the MeADE budget
is the conference (both as a fundraiser and as an expense). Budget
reports are available for review. Also, for $30 members of the MeADE can
post job openings on the MeADE website for 60 days.
This increases exposure of the opening and raises money for MeADE.

Bylaw Committee: Sandra Barth . Need to review and make sure current.
MeADE bylaws are aligned with AADE bylaws. May think about moving to
voting by e-mail or fax; this would save on cost of paper and postage.
This needs to be evaluated to make sure that potential loss of anonymity
is not a problem.

Nominating Committee: Cindy Young =Committee this year really worked
together to come up with accurate job descriptions.

Starting 1/1/09 the new board will be:

Sandra Barth , President

Sheryl Bouchard, VP/ President Elect

Wendy Drew, Treasurer

Kathy Jacques, Secretary

Louise Pelletier.Past President

Nominating committee also worked with the nominations for the Beacon
Award. The winner will be announced tomorrow. C. Young requests that
members think about this ahead of time.  Award is to recognize the
clinicians who have been actively involved in the care of patients and
this organization.

*Meetings for 2009: We generally have a total of 4 meetings; 2 of which
are face-to-face (annual conference in Fall and Spring meeting) and
2 are by phone. Meeting dates have not been determined, or voted, on yet.

Dr. Lisa Letourneau is special guest speaker. She is hoping to identify
10- 20 ADEF-certified Diabetes Self-Management & Education Programs
around the state that would be willing to test-pilot the Maine Diabetes
Pathway brochure with patients over a 4-6 month period. Diabetes
Educators at the pilot sites will be asked to use the Pathway with
patients in their DSMT programs from December 2008 through May 2009, and
collect patient feedback and suggestions using a structured feedback
form that would be returned to project staff. These suggestions will be
incorporated into a final Maine Pathway that will be ready for
widespread distribution by July 2009. The Pathway will be reviewed
yearly using a structured review process to ensure it is consistent with
national guidelines and updated as appropriate. Anyone interested in
participating should talk to Dr. Letourneau she will be available
through the conference and has a table set up with further information
about the Pathway program.

Fundraiser to help IDF will have raffle; tickets available at
registration desk. There will be 3 different prizes which are $100
Hannaford certificate and 2 books on diabetes.
